About

Founded in 2013 by Jennifer Bunsa, the studio’s objective is to create a unique sense of place that is thoughtful, comfortable and infused with soul. At the heart of the practice is a love of color, pattern, texture and a strong desire to create spaces that feel lived-in and timeless. Bunsa Studio believes that the creation of soulful design comes from attention to detail, the incorporation of natural and hand-made materials and blending the old with the new. Most importantly, Bunsa and her team prioritize a collaborative approach with their clients, so that each project is an accurate reflection of its inhabitants.

Born and raised in Miami, Bunsa’s love of design, history, and color was inspired from an early age by the city’s diverse culture and iconic architecture. She began her pursuit of design while studying color theory under Bernard Voichysonk (an understudy of Josef Albers during his time at Yale) at the University of Florida, where she received a Bachelor of Design in 2001.

While at UF, she also studied Architectural Theory under Caroline Constant, who at the time was researching and writing her book on design icon Eileen Gray. The exposure to this research ignited a strong passion and pursuit of knowledge for the decorative arts, which plays a crucial role in her work today.

Bunsa embarked on a study abroad program in Vicenza, Italy, where her love of interior detailing blossomed after touring and sketching many spaces designed by Carlo Scarpa and Gio Ponti. This experience deepened her interest in design and led her to pursue a Master of Architecture from Harvard University, where she focused her studies on materiality under Toshiko Mori, who was her thesis advisor.
